There is something about the cold air. Crisp, full of water, everything here is fresh. It bites you a little, at first in a good way, until you're out too long, then it becomes a prickling pain. But when coming back inside you always feel better for having been out, with the slow defrosting releasing the slight cortisol of a good workout.
Winter, I do love it.
This post is really in praise of my down jacket. By far the most comfortable, practical and warm item I have ever purchased, it just is a pleasure to wear. I am only now, in -25 degree temperatures, realising the benefit of spending the extra money to buy top quality down. This one is from Macpac, and I bought it primarily because the salesperson was just so wonderfully helpful, offering me lots of advice and practical tips for my Everest trip. Plus, it was on sale. Can't resist and all that...
If you don't have one and regularly spend time in a cold climate I really can't recommend one enough. Not so terribly unchic as they may have been 5 years ago, a cool down jacket in black, red or navy can easily be worked into a athleisure-heavy look.
