In Winter, I find it is the little treats that are the best, the tiny patches of kindness we give ourselves in these long grey days. One of my best little luxuries is my weekend newspaper subscription. On gloomy days like this I don't even need to leave the house: whenever I crawl out from under the covers, it is waiting, downstairs in my apartment building. I have been known to sneak down in the lift, braless and in my pyjamas hoping that no one will see me collecting it! (But honestly, I don't actually care if they do).
The other little luxury on an indoor day is pulling out the clothes you haven't worn in a while. In Melbourne where I live, we have a tendency to put away everything exciting on May the first, and wear only our uniforms of black jeans, ankle boots, sneakers and leather jackets until September. Sure, its reliable, but its not really that much fun. Winter whites may not seem like the most natural choice when its drizzly and high-risk outside, but for those indoor days, it is the little treat you might need. So pour yourself a pot of tea, open the newspaper, hit the netflix and relax, it's Sunday.
